Just saw my first one in person, and it really turned my head. It doesn’t come across as a re- skinned Camry, something the ES has been guilty of in the past. Even the grille is kind of okay - the vertical stripes on the non-sport model make the grille appear less like a gaping maw, and more like a sculptural graphic treatment.
HFV has no HFV. But somehow has 2 motorcycles

I agree. I really like them in dark red.

What do you think about the GS?
Or the IS?
Honestly, I think the Lc500 and RCF are the best execution of the spindle grille
The LS looks good as well but too much like an ES now

I’m not in love with the GS - especially in comparison to the ES, the GS’s face looks really fat - like there are a bunch of fat rolls under the eyes and around the cheeks.
The IS must be due for a refresh now. The tiny, strangely upright headlights always sat weird with me, but they’ve been around so long that I’m used to them.
I’m completely in love with the LC - in photos, in person, inside and out. I agree with you that the spindle grille is right at home here.
The RC always looked kind of “lumpy” to me, again with those tiny upright headlights. The lights are so tiny that they exaggerate the size of the surrounding curv es and volumes.
I agree the LS is ES-like. Moreover, I think the ES is a more dignified-looking car than the LS. The LS has just enough extra corners and bumps to look really aggressive, which is odd for a luxo-flagship.
The ES is the newest model in the current Lexus lineup, right? This really seems like a step forward in their design direction - fewer creases f or their own sake, and giving their signature elements some breathing room.

I had the 2019 ES350 Ultra Luxury Press Car a couple weeks ago. The inside and driving it are just as good. Maybe the perfect commuter.

Grille alone, I think horizontal lines make it look better than the weird honeycomb grid.
On the actual car, I agree that the LC500 and RC-F do it best. The RC-F, however, is not photogenic. Looks better in person, which is true for the LC500 as well but the LC500 tends to look almost as good in photos as the real life thing.

The current GS is such a missed opportunity. The previous generation was my favourite Lexus sedan. It was sleek, and it was cheaper than the Germans. The current generation regressed on both fronts and is no sportier than its predecessor , although it did get an improved interior.

The current ES looks and feels great. But it’s no longer a stone’s throw from the price of a loaded Camry , which was the original selling point of the nameplate. As long as their customers keep up with its steady march upmarket, it’s.....fine.
It’s got an acceptable implementation of the Spindle Grille. Not as awesome as the LC500, but good enough.
